August 13

1942 – Disney’s 5th animated featured, Bambi, premiers in New York City at the Radio City Music Hall.  The movie would be nominated for the Academy Awards – Best Song, Best Sound, and Best Original Music Score

1954 – Excavation of the Disneyland site in California begins.

2004Hurricane Charley acts the bully and causes the third property-wide theme park closing in Disney World’s history.

August 15

1999  - The Disney Wonder departs Cape Canaveral on her maiden voyage.

August 16

1955 – Disneyland’s Dumbo Flying Elephants soars guests for the first time in Fantasyland.  The attraction, still in operation today, is one of the most recognizable rides at Disneyland.

August 17

1986 - Luxo Jr., the first movie from Pixar premiers in Dallas.  The oddly cute desk lamp would become the mascot for the company.

August 19

2004 – Disney Legend Harry Tytle passes away in his 95th year.  The author of ‘One of Walt’s Boys’, Tytle worked for 40 years as a producer and production supervisor on some of Disney’s biggest projects.
