August 20

1928 – The final Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short, Hot Dog, is released

 

2004 – The annual Winnie’s Hometown Festival kicks off in White River, Ontario.

     August 21

1995 – Disneyland’s People Mover attraction closes.  It has been in operation since 1967

     August 22

1929 - The Silly Symphony cartoon The Skeleton Dance is released.  It is directed by Disney Legend Ub Iwerks and animated by Walt Disney.

2006 – The Disney founded town of Celebration, Florida announces the construction of their third hotel, which will open in 2008

     August 23

1986 – The U.S. Senate passes a bill which designates December 5 as ‘Walt Disney Recognition Day.  It is Public Law 99-391.

August 24

1989 – The Ewok Village opens at Disney-MGM studios.  The beautiful village is incorporated into the Star Tours attraction entrance.

1992 – Tokyo Disneyland welcomes guest number 120 million.

2006 – Two white rhinos from Disney’s Animal Kingdom take their first steps on African soil.  The animals were flown to Uganda and released in the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to help boost the endangered species numbers.  With the addition Disney’s duo, a total of 8 white rhinos now live in Uganda.

August 25

1956 – The Disneyland Hotel has an official grand opening – despite being open for almost a year.

August 26

1918  - Walt joins the American Ambulance Corps after changing his birthdate, and forging his parents signature on the enlistment forms – he is 17.
