Dear Isaac, please don’t ruin our vaction – a storm warning.

It’s not often (never) that we do weather updates.  But, it is also rare that the looming threat of a giant storm directly threatens our Disney magic.

Isaac’s projected path, as of 8 AM, Thursday, August 23

Weather network has stated that confidence is high that Isaac will affect the U.S., making landfall as soon as Sunday, with severe weather continuing into next week.  It is not clear where the greatest impact will be felt, but stay updated with us for news in the next few days.

Threats included strong wind, heavy rain, and flooding.  Good news?  You won’t have to wait for an hour to ride Kali River Rapids for that afternoon refresher.

Disney World has faced closer due to severe weather in the past.  Hurricane’s Charlie, Francis, Ivan, and Jeanne all shut the doors to the Kingdom.

If you live in Central Florida, or arrive for vacation this week,  we would like to make sure you are as prepared as possible for Isaac’s arrival.  A few things we’ll offer in the following days:

  • The best/cheapest places to grab supplies for a day or two inside
  • What activities are available at resorts, and the best places to be stuck.
  • Keeping safe

Never fear, friends – it’s Disney World, there is always something to do.

  1. I was at WDW during Charlie and we had a great time. Well, except for the evening we were confined to our rooms because of the Hurricane – and even that wasn’t bad, it was the Olympic opening ceremonies and we never lost the signal!! It was interesting watching the park preperations that morning (Charlie hit Orlando around 7-8pm), things like tying down hanging signs and moving anything loose indoors. The morning after Charlie, absolutely everything was a walk on – and the parks looked amazing! The cleaning crews must have started as soon as it was safe and worked all night.

One tip, if the parks are closing early, leave about 90 minutes before closing time, go straight to your hotel’s food court grab a hot meal and grab some sandwiches/snacks/drinks for the time you’ll be in your room. Another park guest had ‘pixie dusted’ us with that advice and we found it amazing! We had a bit of a line, but nothing bad – maybe 5-7 people in front of us at the food prep counter. As we sat in the food court at All Star Music eating our lunch, the lines became unbelievable! The line to get into the food court was literally out the door by the time we finished eating – and all the premade sandwich-y type food was gone.
