Reader Advice – Waiting Out Bad Weather at Disney World

One of our lovely readers, Michelle P., was kind enough to send us this piece of advice for getting through a bad-weather day at Disney World.

Michelle writes:

I was at WDW during Charlie and we had a great time. Well, except for the evening we were confined to our rooms because of the Hurricane – and even that wasn’t bad, it was the Olympic opening ceremonies and we never lost the signal!! It was interesting watching the park preparations that morning (Charlie hit Orlando around 7-8pm), things like tying down hanging signs and moving anything loose indoors. The morning after Charlie, absolutely everything was a walk on – and the parks looked amazing! The cleaning crews must have started as soon as it was safe and worked all night.

One tip, if the parks are closing early, leave about 90 minutes before closing time, go straight to your hotel’s food court grab a hot meal and grab some sandwiches/snacks/drinks for the time you’ll be in your room. Another park guest had ‘pixie dusted’ us with that advice and we found it amazing! We had a bit of a line, but nothing bad – maybe 5-7 people in front of us at the food prep counter. As we sat in the food court at All Star Music eating our lunch, the lines became unbelievable! The line to get into the food court was literally out the door by the time we finished eating – and all the pre-made sandwich-y type food was gone.

  1. After avoiding WDW during August due to weather concerns, we finally went just last month. It was great! The weather was hot, but we didn’t mind, and the crowds/lines were better than our normal WDW timeframe of late June. There were no hurricane threats while we were there, but it’s really good to know your tips in case we’re ever in that situation.
