  1. I went to charter schools for most of my life and I love this piece because it doesn't just depend on student statistics (both good and bad). I graduated in June from a cutting-edge charter school and I hate when people act like how my class is doing post graduation will prove or disprove the system as a whole. Mother Jones published a whole article about us and said my class of 87 will show how well the system works in 4 years (when we graduate from college).

  2. So you're going to ignore that Public schools do all these bad things except way more and are allowed to stay open because unlike Charter schools they aren't held accountable when they fuck up? I don't get it, are you just out of touch? Does the fact you weren't fucking raised here have something to do without why you do not have a full blown distrust and hatred for the public school system? Even the Americans who say "I don't hate it" still will concede "But it's a disaster." Have you not heard about everyone talking about how many other countries have better public education? Charter schools kick ass and you are grabbing at a cheap punchline.

    Oh look I made a rant on the internet. I can make a difference! Go read a book.

  3. i find you funny and like your Content however dont go around disrespecting philly like that unless your ready to be talking like that in the link at a birds tailgate

  4. I fucking hated the Charter school I whent to. We were supposed to walk with are hands held neatly in front of us while walking down the halls. I once walked down the halls with my hands held like that in back of me, and the teacher yelled at me and took 5 minutes off my recess.

  5. To be fair as John Oliver knows Mary Kate did not plagiarize her sister's face, because they are only one person moving really really fast.

  6. Regular public schools work, why do change for the sake of change? It is good to try new things, but when it is to public education, it is important that the government guarantees its universality and its quality, so sometimes transferring responsibilities to third parties, even if partially, is not a good idea.

  7. It's not our fault the bell is cracked, and have you ever even tried cheesesteak-or for that matter, British cuisine?

    (Guys I'm half-British, please don't get offended. It's a joke.}

  8. School vouchers funnel money away from already-struggling public schools and children and redistribute tax dollars to private schools and middle-class children.

  9. I went to a charter in 4th grade doing all of my homework in public school, never missing a day with a 3-4 gpa. They didn't have homework. I left back to public school the next year (my teacher in charter was a dick) and ever since I haven't been able to keep up on homework, and I learned what procrastination is as well. For the past 4 years I've had a 2.0-2.9 gpa. No better. The school went to 8th grade and even though I was only ever in 4th I guarantee you that they were not preparing kids for highschool or life.

  10. Well, shit. As a pregnant mother I've been looking into future schooling options for my child and a charter school seemed like a great option… But I live in Ohio and after watching this video and how unregulated Ohio charters are, I'm definitely going to do more research.

  11. I went to a charter school from kindergarten to 8th grade. The instruction wasn’t any different from public schools and the kids weren’t any smarter. The reason it had the highest standardized test score in the State was because they filled our heads with test taking strategies. They taught you to reason your way to a correct answer instead of actually knowing the material so you got an artificially high score. Once they had the highest scores in the state, they used that for marketing and PR purposes. Charter schools are a shell game for naive parents.

  12. Welcome to the ideocratic circle. The crappier the quality of instruction and the more authoritarian the culture of the institution the greater the number of Right Wing Dings and Capitalist Tools that institution will produce. Dings+Tools= Corpo NeoFeudal Fascism and Borald Treltsin as Conman in Chief. Capitalism is moral corruption and Totalitarian Capitalism is when the ethics of the market are metastasized to every corner, crevice and facet of society. There is no escape and no sanctuary from some Corporati trying to pick your pocket.

  13. the more I watch this and Adam Ruins Everything the more I believe we should start a new game this savefile is too full of shit

  14. there is NOTHING wrong with CHARTER SCHOOLS. yes there more focused in other MAJOR;NEEDED; USED TO BENEFIT THERE LIFES YEARS FROM NOW. THEY MAKE PARENTS INNERACT WITH THERE CHILDREN SPECIFICALLY AT SCHOOL.WHERE ACTUALLY THE LIVES OF OUR KIDS ARE FORMED… CHARTER SCHOOLS SHOULD NOT BE SEEN AS WHO MAKES WHAT. THEY PROUDLY ENJOY RAISING MONEY WITHIN THEMSELVES AND THEYRE KIDS FAMILIES PROVIDING EXACTLY WHAT THE KIDS OF CHARTER SCHOOLS NEED AND THERE SCHOOLS FOCUS. CHARTER SCHOOLS FOCUS ON OUR KIDS AND THERE EDUCATION FOR THERE LIFES.

  15. Correct me if I am wrong, but charter schools strikes me as one of those “only in America” kind of stories and are really a product of our unique US cultural thinking. Absolutely other countries are outperforming the US in educational standards, but here in this country we blame teachers unions and gubbmint rather than considering we have just failed to adapt our education standards. A friend of mine who started her daughter in pre-school in the US but got assigned to service in Okinawa compared the two and she said in the US kids in preschool just learn arts and crafts-in Japan they start them off immediately on reading, writing, math, and languages. Worth considering.

  16. And whats actually scary. Trayvon Mitchell was actually shot and killed while trying to rob someone for his bookbag. And he was also facing charges for stealing money from his Charter school
