IPL 2021: Punjab Kings, ranked fifth in the 14th season of IPL, will face Kolkata Knight Riders, who are ranked lowest in the table, at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium on Monday in the 21st match of the season. After the opening 20 matches in Mumbai and Chennai in the 14th season of the league, the halt of the IPL has now reached Ahmedabad.
Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by nine wickets in their last match on Friday, while Kolkata suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals in their last match. Kolkata’s biggest concern is its middle order, which has failed to score big.
Kolkata captain Eoin Morgan has also failed to score runs. He has scored only 45 runs in five matches so far. In the last match, he was out without opening an account. The captain said after the match that the batsmen of the team have to show their will to score runs. Kolkata bowling also remains a matter of concern. Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins, who is considered to be an expensive player, has failed to make an impact and now the team management can give a chance to Kiwi bowler Lockie Ferguson in his place.
The Punjab team, however, has returned to the winning track. The bowling of the team has been fantastic so far, but there is no consistency in the performance of its batsmen. The team has benefited from the return of leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who took two wickets for 21 runs in four overs in the last match. Fast bowler Mohammad Shami has also bowled well in the death overs. The good thing for the team is that Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle have returned to form. Captain Lokesh Rahul’s bat is also getting run out.
A high-scoring match can be seen in Ahmedabad. The temperature will be around 37 degree Celsius. However, there will not be much dew. The Ahmedabad pitch is helpful for batting. There is no chance of rain and the sky will be clear. The team that wins the toss will like to bowl first.
Head to head
The teams of Kolkata and Punjab have faced each other 27 times in the IPL so far. In which the pan of KKR appears heavy. The Kolkata team has won 18 times. While Punjab has won only 9 matches. In the last five matches between the two teams, the Knight Riders have won the Kings four times.
