What Is Association Between Gum Disease And Severe Covid-19 Outcomes? Researchers Tell This Reason

Researchers at McGill University Canada have found a strong correlation between pyorrhea, the common manifestation of gum disease, and the serious consequences of Kovid-19. Research has found that people suffering from pyorrhea are 8.8 times more likely to die from Kovid-19 than others. With that, such people need 3.5 times more hospital admission than Kovid-19 and 4.5 times more need for ventilators.

What is the strong connection between Pyrrhia and Kovid-19?

The clinical definition of severe inflammation is pyorrhea due to the accumulation of bacteria between the teeth and gums. These painful abscesses, without treatment, can cause tooth loss. People may be able to prevent pyorrhea by brushing the pyrea and a good cleaning of the mouth, including regular checkup of the teeth. Researchers say “pyorrhea has been considered a risk factor for many diseases, including pimples.” Scientists have also discovered the relation between respiratory disease, diabetes, heart disease and condition. Apart from this, there is also a relation of greater risk between pre-eclampsia such as gum disease and complication of pregnancy.

According to research, pyorrhea causes gingivitis, and if left untreated, inflammation can spread in the body. Researchers reported that pyorrhea is the most common dental disease in Canada. It affects 7 out of 10 people at some point in their life and it is an invisible epidemic. He has stated the need to increase awareness about the disease and to restore periodontal disease more, especially during this global pandemic. Researchers analyzed electronic records of teeth and health of 568 patients from Hammad Medical Corporation, Qatar. After considering various aspects such as demographic, medical or behavioral factors, he found that the level of inflammation in the blood of people suffering from pyorrhea was markedly higher.

He said that in patients with severe cases of Kovid-19, the inflammatory response can lead to involution and even death. Senior author Dr. Faleh Tamimi said, “We already suspected that the severity of Kovid-19 would be higher among people suffering from pyorrhea because their body has already high levels of inflammation.” However, the researchers cautioned that their research has its limitations. Finally, the research does not establish an informal relationship between the serious consequences of pyorrhea and Kovid-19. Apart from this, further research is needed due to lack of data of the people.
